MEDEA
by Euripides
A stunning and timely masterpiece of the classic Greek theatre, first performed in Athens in 431 B.C. Betrayed by her husband and banished by her king, Medea sets in motion a devastating sequence of tragic events. A searing whirlwind of revenge that ends in treachery, deception and explosive death.
As for the play as a whole... Well, let's get the obvious out of the way.  The ancient Greeks are very modern-sometimes more modern than we are ourselves...the Greek tragedies, with their insights on guilt, the clashing of cultures and the legacy of violence, are more modern than ever before.  The actions of the title character (Medea) ...speak of "how one person's rage can be so out of balance that it brings down an entire civilization."
